HOLY SPIRIT IN ME

FROM REES HOWELLS’S INTERCESSOR by Norman Grubb

"In the light of His purity, it was not so much sin we saw as self. We saw pride and self-motives underlying everything we had ever done.

(Blue type = my comments)

Pride and self-motives. Holy Spirit, reveal to me when these are my motivators. They can be insidious and I do not chose to live with them. Convict me Holy Spirit when You see them in me. Please help me, Holy One, to be holy as You are holy. It is what you call us to. Hebrews 13 says You work in me and make me pleasing to Yourself. Do an attitude adjustment in me and make my attitude be Your attitude of total love.

Lust and self-pity were discovered in places where we had never suspected them. And we have to confess we knew nothing of the Holy Ghost as an indwelling person. That our bodies were meant to be the temples of the Holy Ghost we knew, but when He pressed the question, 'Who is living in your body?' we could not say that He was. We would have done so once, but now we had seen Him."

"In His nature He was just like Jesus - He would never live for self, but always for others. We were people who had left all to follow the Savior, and had forsaken all we had of this world's goods to enter a life of faith, and as far as we knew we had surrendered our lives entirely to the One who died for us. But He showed us, 'There is all the difference in the world between your surrendered life in My hands, and Me living My life in your body.'"

Holy Spirit, live Your life in my body. What does that entail Holy Spirit? It means the ‘me’ in me ‘that holy ego” is not so holy, but desires my own happiness, building up me. YOU living in me with Your life, You living in my body ~ not me living my life in my body. Whoa! Now that is a heavy concept. It is also a goal whose accomplishment is possible only thru divine intervention. My human will is much too weak to do this. But You are God and if I commit my body and soul to You and ask that You take over, it is possible.

To put it clearly, I desire YOU Holy Spirit to live Your life in this body of mine, in my body! Then all things are possible. It is like being Jesus ~ you live Your life in my body. Possess my body Holy One! I give it to You. Now show me how to do this, Lord. You have my will and my body. Look at the second paragraph down!

You are a consuming fire! Consume the “me” in me and replace it with Yourself!

"We read the Acts afresh and found we were reading, not the acts of the apostles, but the acts of the Holy Ghost. The bodies of Peter and the others had become His temples. The Holy Ghost as a divine Person lived in the bodies of the apostles, even as the Savior had lived His earthly life in the body that was born in Bethlehem. And all that the Holy Spirit asked of us was our wills and our bodies."

"'I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice…'(Rom. 12:1). It seemed as though we had never seen that scripture before. He made it clear that He was not asking for service, but for a sacrifice. 'Our God is a consuming fire; and if God the Holy Ghost took possession of these bodies, then His life was going to consume all that there was of ours." You Holy Spirit indwell me and consume the 'me'. . .let this life be You living Your life in me, so I become You ~ my life is no longer my life, but rather Jesus-life alive in this body.

"We had often sung 'I want to be like Jesus,' but when we had the offer from a Person who is just like the Savior to come and live that life daily and hourly in us, we found how unreal we had been. How much there was in us that still wanted to live our own lives - that shrank from this 'sentence of death'! We now began to see the meaning of the Savior's words in Luke 9:24, 'For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for My sake, the same shall save it.'"

Ok, this is the truth! For You Lord to be daily hourly living Your life in me, it will be a battle for me, a death of the “me” in me; what “I WANT” has to die in subjection to what YOU WANT. Death is not easy especially this death. But Holy One, with Your help it is possible. Like it says above

LUKE 9:24 Whoever shall save HIS life shall lose it; but whoever shall lose HIS life for MY sake, the same shall save it.

This is not  only physical death, but death of self and let Holy Spirit live His life in my body. Sacrifice my ego self to Holy Spirit that He is alive living His life in me.

"Why had He manifested Himself to us in this way? He made that quite clear. It was because there was a work to be done in the world today that only He could do (John 16: No wonder the Master told His disciples not to move from Jerusalem until they had received 'the promise of the Father.' But when He had come, they would be His witnesses 'in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and into the uttermost part of the earth.'"

There is work to be done in our world today and time is short. I must be humble as Jesus was humble always submitted to the will of the Father. I must love as Jesus loved to be ready to die for those I love. He was fearless and if in the garden He did fear, He took it to the Father Who strengthened Him. Totally trust in God. Now if Holy One, You live Your life in me, I have no life but Your life living in me. I become Your agent, because Your life will consume all that there was of me. Be a consuming fire in me Lord God Almighty! Make me who You created me to be.

SEARCHING FOR A CLOSER WALK WITH GOD

                                        AWESOME GOD

 DIGGING DEEPER

Sometimes the terrible awesomeness of God hits me and sends me reeling into deep meditation. It always carries its reward of a new closeness with my God. It happened this morning. In the beginning I was distracted with my mind wandering here and yon. Then I ‘woke up’ and commanded it to return. God is so good! Holy Spirit began to lead me in prayer.

Sorry, my Lord. I come to our meeting this morning with scattered thoughts; help me, Lord, to rein them in. That You even desire to meet with me is so amazing! Deep breath. Moses asked God, “what shall I say when they ask 'Who sent me’?” You responded, “Say the Great I AM sent me.” You, God, are not hemmed in by time. For You there is no ‘was, will be’, there is only I AM. Before You I bow down my heart, my 'who I am' I submit to You; help me become who You created me to be.

Exodus 3:13-14 (AMP)

13 And Moses said to God, Behold, when I come to the Israelites and say to them, The God of your fathers has sent me to you, and they say to me, What is His name? What shall I say to them? 14 And God said to Moses, I Am Who I Am and What I Am, and I Will Be What I Will Be; and He said, You shall say this to the Israelites: I Am has sent me to you!

  • Footnotes: Exodus 3:15 To know the name of God is to witness the manifestation of those attributes and apprehend that character which the name denotes.

Can you feel the depth of that name? 'I AM' signifies so much ~ timelessness, absolute love, supreme power, unimaginable expansion ~ an incomprehensible being, totally surrounding. There simply are not words to express the grandness of Who our God is. HIS LOVE FOR US  S SO APPARENT IN HIS WORD!

Psalm 91:14 (AMP)

Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, and kindness—trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never forsake him, no, never].

Isaiah 52:6 (AMP)

Therefore My people shall know what My name is and what it means; therefore they shall know in that day that I am He who speaks; behold, I Am!

Indeed my God! You are the great I AM! This measures so deep and so high and so wide. You revealed Your staggering magnificence to David, and it comes out here:

Psalm 139:1-10

O Lord, you have examined my heart

and know everything about me.

2 You know when I sit down or stand up.

You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.

Even when it’s my mind traveling on tangents.

3 You see me when I travel and when I rest at home.

You know everything I do.

4 You know what I am going to say

even before I say it, Lord.

5 You go before me and follow me.

You place your hand of blessing on my head.

6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,

too great for me to understand!

7 I can never escape from your Spirit!

I can never get away from your presence!

8 If I go up to heaven, you are there;

if I go down to the grave, you are there.

9 If I ride the wings of the morning,

if I dwell by the farthest oceans,

10 even there your hand will guide me,

and your strength will support me.

You are always with me.

You will guide me.

You will always be my support. Your strength

upholds me, protects me, supports me.

Lord, You are so good! What a privilege to know You! Thank You that You continue to grow me closer to You. Thank You! I love being together with You, my Lord.
